The Mackenzie FX All-Season Floating Head combines the effortless loading of a compact Skagit-style head with the smooth turnover and precise presentation of a modern shooting head system.
Designed to cover a wide range of fishing situations, its compact hybrid taper ensures easy casting, precise loop control and smooth turnover, even in restricted casting spaces. The result is an extremely versatile floating head capable of handling everything from delicate surface presentations to the use of heavier sinking tips, with complete control.
The compact taper loads quickly and casts with minimal effort, providing excellent line control in everything from tight casting situations to larger rivers. Factory-welded loops at both ends allow quick and easy attachment of running lines and interchangeable tips.
The FX All-Season Floating Head system is ideal for anglers looking for maximum versatility, effortless casting performance and refined presentation in a traditional shooting head setup.
The great advantage of this system is that the 15 ft FX All-Season Tips and 15 ft Tungsten Tips can be used with all three head sizes (8/9, 9/10 and 10/11).
In other words, once you have purchased a kit for one line size, you only need to purchase the heads in the other sizes and/or sinking rates, while continuing to use the same tips.
The tips are not polyleaders; they are an extension of the fly line's taper, connecting to the actual leader at the end. Their profile completes the head, which cannot be used without them.
The system is called Hybrid because, when using the FX All-Season Tips, which continue the head's taper, the line behaves as a true Scandi setup. However, when using the 15 ft Tungsten Tips in T-10, T-14 or T-18 sink rates, the head becomes a Skagit setup.
