When the river gets some colour, we want our flies to do the same. In Flames is my number one high water fly. Fished deep the TTT is perfect. The TTT version I fish with a fl. orange or fl. magenta FITS steering tube or to tint it down to a fly for just a bit coloured water or those magic fall days fish it with a black steering tube.
This is the newest family, a bit weighted and tied on our new FITS Tungsten Turbo Tube “TTT”. Many tiers - me and others, have during the years experimented with weighted short tubes fished with loose hanging hooks. “Laxkungen” Roger Ahlfors and my closest buddy Håkan Norling were both pioneers. To lean the wing against a regular cone lined with plastic tubing worked fine. The TTT is the easy solution. It will both give a bit of weight and open up the fly to give a great broad profile. Vary the colour of the tubing that fixes the hook, a flexible and easy way to tie a modern effective fly. The way I tied this is first hackling and then wing. Instead of varnishing a head, which I think takes time and give a vulnerable fly, I go down in front of the TTT on the plastic tubing and end with a soft hackle and a micro turbo cone. Testing of these were quite spectacular - the first fish on the large TTT weighed in at 36 lbs, next day another one at 38 lbs. The pattern – Pahtakorva!
